Michael & Tom update! [Oct. 9th, 2015|07:16 pm]
tasabian
Happy birthday cinderella81! Yay for Friday birthdays - hope it's a good one.

Michael just finished filming a movie called "The Last Days of Summer" with William Fichtner. I hope this photo accurately represents his costume in the film.

Tom also has a new movie out in early 2016. I watched the preview. Tom looks beautiful; improbably he's playing the "other man." This is actually a good thing as the leading man was so annoying in the preview, I was talking back to the screen and got briefly excited when Tom punches him (a dainty biff of a punch compared to what we're used to on Smallville.) The leading lady is also annoying. Tom's broad chest that I yearn to fling myself against? Never annoying!

Preview is here, if you're in the mood for cheese:

Transcendent beauty!

This leads to a faint hope that Dr Tom and Annoying Leading Man will patch up differences in bed but alas, I suspect not.

I'm excited to have another Michael project to look forward to! He continues to be exceptionally generous with fans on social media, I hope he knows how much we appreciate all that he has shared.

The things I do for Tom Welling! The Choice was the first Nicholas Sparks book I ever read (I thought it was terrible, I couldn't stand either of the main characters), and it will be the first Sparks movie I ever see in theaters. From my perspective, this is the story of how our hero Dr. Ryan narrowly escapes marrying the wrong woman. :)

Tom's character is something of a mystery, he was barely even mentioned in the book. Tom definitely has more screen time in The Choice than he did in either Parkland or Draft Day (I count eight scenes between the sides and the trailer, I hope they all made it into the film). I can't wait to see what he does with the role, and for his sake I hope this is one of the Sparks movies that makes money (they all get bad reviews).

I read a synopsis of the book and understood instantly that I am not the target audience. I can't even tell if the leads are good actors - when the source material is that awful, it's beyond saving! The oddest thing in the trailer is that Travis has more chemistry with his sister than his love interest.

From my perspective, this is the story of how our hero Dr. Ryan narrowly escapes marrying the wrong woman. :)
Tom definitely chose the right role. The silly plot doesn't rest on his (sexy) shoulders. His sudden punch was the best moment in the trailer. Michael's had his share of being the best thing in a dud movie. If this makes money, good for Tom. If it bombs, it's not on him.

I suspect a lot of viewers won't be able to swallow the "she chose THAT guy over Tom?" premise.

Thumbs up to the cinematographer anyway - we should have some beautifully lit Views of Tom to enjoy!

I do think the trailer looks very pretty, and I really enjoyed the director's other two movies, but I will be very much surprised if I don't roll my eyes all the way through this. I've tried, and for the most part failed, to watch a bunch of other Sparks movies. I always get fed up and turn them off in exasperation, especially with his female characters.

I've read that a fair number of people thought James Marsden's character was the better choice in The Notebook, and Sparks has freely admitted he was trying to re-create the magic of his greatest success when he wrote The Choice. I'm interested to see how many people leave the theater firmly on Team Ryan.

Gabby seems like an idjit - if they're aiming for a primarily female audience, you'd think the key would be to write a character women can recognize.

I myself would always pick Marsden. (Never saw the movie, but just on principle.)

Incidentally, I found a plot synopsis for "Last Day of Summer" - Michael plays an alcoholic & abusive husband :( I'm sure he enjoyed the role & working with Fichtner...but I'm so glad he broke out of that "jerk" mold with Impastor.

That's what I honestly don't get about the legions of Sparks fans. His female characters make me seriously question where his perception of how women think and feel comes from, but obviously there are many, many others who relate to them in a way I can't even imagine.

BTW, going back to your comment about not being able to tell if the leads are good actors, the first thing I ever saw Taylor Schilling in was a Sparks movie, and I remember thinking she was a horrible actress. It wasn't until I saw her in OitNB that I realized it was the script that was so bad.

I'm sure Michael will be utterly convincing in the role, but I have so enjoyed watching him be the guy we all root for on Impastor, as Buddy's inherent sweetness increasingly wins out over the questionable behavior and bad decisions that have always guaranteed his survival in the past.

Oh dear, that film of Tom's looks fairly terrible! At least he gets to punch an annoying character though - it will probably endear him to the audience!

Potentially shirtless Michael's film looks more interesting!

I'm so over him playing the "jerk boyfriend" but if the shirt stays off, I can forgive.

Tariel says Tom's character is barely in the book but has 8 scenes in the film so I'm hoping his role consists of rolling his eyes at the idiots around him!

I endured "The Longest Ride" so it's a no-brainer I am going to see "The Choice" even though I may sprain my eyeballs from rolling them because Tom Welling vs. Benjamin Walker? No comparison? And Maggie Grace and that brown wig/dye job is causing me great pain.

Now if only Tom was a good worker bee like Rosey. He's all over the place!

I had not heard of BW but he looks so much better in his promo pics then he does in the preview - why the DJ Qualls styling in the preview? The hair is distracting. Whereas Tom is his effortlessly beautiful self.

The solution is for Tom to go on Impastor and have some laughs and take his shirt off....

It's terrible. The set stylist must've had a grunge against him AND Maggie Grace.

He was most notably "Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter" and ex-husband of Mamie Gummer ("Emily Owens, MD") I bet Justin Hartley doesn't buy Teresa Palmer picking him over Tom.

Buddy's nudist pal. I'm down with that.

And it's extra noticeable because the cinematography & lighting are great! BW looks a decade older than Tom but I think he's actually a few years younger?

Is Maggie playing the creepily over-invested sister?

Ding ding ding! That kinda works with Michael's yearning to cast him as the town hippie.

LOL! Tom has 5 years on him.

Ugh, yes. I could take Tom screaming "Elizabeth" at her in "The Fog" but that hair is a bridge too far.

I think every one of Michael's roles should be shirtless, or at least an open shirt or better yet, an open vest. Those arms are seriously distracting!

I love Tom, but I have below 0 interest in Nicholas Sparks movies. I have only ever seen part of one, and didn't even realize it was one of his until years later - A Walk to Remember. And I refuse to watch it again because I hate 'romance' movies that make me cry/end sadly.

Lovely to finally see what Lex was hiding under all his long sleeved shirts! The arms are glorious.

I hope Tom's movie leads on to better roles for him; miss his beauty on my tv every week!
