*spoilers inside*

A solid episode for Clark & Tom means a happy episode for me and I loved him tonight. Tom uses a totally different body language when Clark's on RedK, often mimicking the people around him. In Red, he adopted a Lexian posture; in Exile, a club-kid strut, and tonight, he was mirroring Zod's head tilts and bird-like movements.

This episode was a nice little homage to Clex. Clark, as in "Red", ditches the ladies to head out on the town with a guy, except this time they actually get there. And as in "Red", I love that Clark's naughtiest desire is not to rush straight to his girlfriend & shag, but to stand on top of the space needle with another dude. If only he & Lex had made it to the penthouse...

Also loved that Zod and Clark acknowledge that they are sloppy seconds to each other. Zod reminisces mistily about Jor-El and asks Clark "did you ever have a friend you had a connection with, like you were opposite sides of the same soul." Clex shout-out! Clark softly answers "Once. A long time ago.."

The climax appropriately involves three buff dudes, a Fortress full of ice dildos (how I've missed you!) and lots of sexy glances. Loved Clark's vulnerability at the end, his yearning for a family, beautifully played by Tom.

Brian Austin Green is excellent as Metallo & I liked this much better than his previous ep. Nice plotline for Lois, with some dialogue that was actually good & very well delivered by ED & BAG. Love that Metallo's ultimate compliment is to call Lois a "dame." She was a dame indeed in this episode, which is exactly how I like her.

Two more dames: I enjoyed Chloe and Tess working together. Fun to see Tess paired with someone other than Zod. Love Allison's hair & jacket in the final scene.

Caveats: Clark didn't really need to apologize that much in the last scene (and do we think Ollie's gonna get completely off the hook for the krypto-stash by dint of not being in this episode? I do!) I'll admit I was distracted by the hotness of Tom's arms in that t-shirt & wasn't paying enough attention to the actual words.

Did not enjoy another scene of Lois blowing off Clark for a phone call again. Echoes of mid-S5 Clana.

But mostly this was a nice late-in-season surprise.

Gee I should have known you'd see the Fortress of Solitude as Dildo Palace? ;-). As for the sexy glances, I guess as a straight female I would miss gay males glancing sexually at each other.

You did make a good point about Red K Clark mimicking those around him. I hadn't thought of that until you mentioned it.

I am also a straight female but Smallville has always flown its homoeroticism banner with pride. It ain't what it was when Lex was around, but this episode shows they can still bring it.

I think the important lesson that we all need to take away from this episode is "If you blow off smoochy time with Clark to take a call from "The Blur" then you deserve to get drugged/knocked out as punishment".

Rejecting smoochy time with Clark-- tsk such a waste of a good opportunity!!

It's more or less the same lesson Lex learned in Red when he left Clark to go talk to Jonathan & was denied Clark-smooches at the penthouse!

I liked Clark and Zod and Tess and Lois but found all the grunting by Metallo very off-putting. Not sure why the show seemed to think fit to make Metallo a hero for now, not to mention giving him an express pass to the FOS. Oh, well. And I was really angry that the show doesn't seem prepared to challenge Chloe for her actions. I mean, she embraced using the control technology that was rejected with horror way back in S5's Cyborg, and KO'd her own cousin to cover for Tess.

HEE! One could have some naughty fun isolating Metallo's audio!

Agree that Metallo as good guy seems a little random but was pleased he's given up emo-monologuing, and liked his scenes with Lois.

Lazy writing aside, I didn't mind the chloroform - the show has a history of knocking people out to remove them from the action, ie Clark love-tapping Lex in Witness, Tess in Turbulence, Pete in Nicodemus and (hilariously) some random factory worker in "Scare." It's not great writing to be sure. But the apology scene was an abject failure, apart from Clark's t-shirt. The writers wrote it as light & flippant, when in fact Clark should have been totally serious in confronting Chloe at the end, and set ground rules about future conduct. Very frustrating to watch. I think of the brilliant Chloe-apology scene at the end of "Truth" - what separated Chloe from Lana then is that she did apologize when she messed up - and wonder if the writers can ever manage something so good again?

And will Clark ever call Oliver on the weapons stash and betrayal? I'm guessing not.

Couldn't be described it better! *giggles*

You are so right about that. I really like the fact that RedK Clark is different from time to time and has a new attitude. He was hot as hell.

I was glad he also wanted to have a little fun - loved the boyish spark in Clark's eye!

I didn't quite like the ep so much I'm afraid because I honestly wasn't pleased with the writing for Clark. But I absolutely agree with how terrific BAG was, once again.

I also agree about Lois - I think some of her strongest eps are those where she's in reporter!investigative mode. And thar, coupled with her compassion and humility this ep made this one a really stellar appearance for her.

And how unexpected was that Clex reference! And all the more awesome for it.

That's such a great observation.

You could see Erica really enjoying her lines & it was nice the General got a shout-out!

That's such a great observation.
Thanks! Since one of Clark's secret desires is to "fit in", to me it makes sense that he becomes a bit of a chameleon on RedK & I love how Tom plays it.

How extremely homoerotic was this episode? The looks Zod and Clark were giving each other... holy shit, they're not even trying to hide it anymore!

Heh, I don't think SV has ever tried to hide it. I like that even with Michael gone, they do try to throw Clexers a bone every now & then. Clod is not in the same league as Clex but it was fun to see Tom & Callum playing around.

Very true. There were at least a dozen plot holes in this ep but I rather like that the show barreled along regardless.

I can't watch the show any more -- I left when MR did -- but I love hearing that there are still echoes of Clexiness amid the rubble.

This was a nice little shout-out, a nod that Lex has not been replaced in Clark's life (nor Jor-El in Zod's)
