Whoo! Rock that lead, Chris Colfer!
I'm fascinated by how much the show has changed structurally, RM using the traditional boy/girl format as a Trojan Horse for what he really wanted to do.

*pumps fist*
I'm not an unqualified fan of the show but gay lead = YAY.
I love Kurt, but while I was watching the episode, I was a little jealous to see Kurt being celebrated and loved by everyone. Now I badly want to see Clark be celebrated just once before the show is over. But LOL at the gay lead on Fox. They didn't see that one coming!

The music is....variable, to say the least!
I don't think it's ever been an ensemble show. Rachel and Finn (and Will, to an extent) used to be the leads, and now the focus seems to have shifted to Kurt. Since I like Kurt more than the other two, I'm okay with this. I still wish it would at least try to be an ensemble show, though, because there's just so much untapped potential in all the other characters. I think the show works best when it utilizes all its characters in a single plot, but that rarely happens.
Chris Colfer is a terrific actor, though, and deserves every single bit of praise he's getting. I hope that whenever Glee is over, he continues to have a fabulous career.
When it started, it seemed to me like the show was Rachel/Finn, Will/Emma, Sue......and then everyone else. But there's been a shift towards focusing on the kids (hence less screen time for Emma)

My guess is when the Kurt arc is done, the pendulum will swing back to Rachel & Finn (though I'd much rather see Mercedes get a big plotline next.)
I like Kurt a lot, and I sure do prefer the focus on him over Rachel or Finn or Will. However, I do feel like the show has just gone crazy overboard with it. This past episode was like some sort of testimonial to the wonder of Kurt. It was a little nuts.

That's what fascinated me, that the gay character was at the epicentre of the melodramatic plotline for once, instead of being the heroine's "supportive best friend" or making witty remarks from the sidelines. It's like an All About Eve where Colfer snuck in and ran away with Lea M's spotlight!
That said, even for Glee, this was a mish-mash script. The wedding was planned in a day? The parents were okay with the wedding being hijacked by the Glee Club and all the speeches being about Kurt? And GAH, waste of Carol Burnett.
I literally just finished watching this week's episode and, while I don't necessarily think the recent Kurt Hummel Hour 'pattern' is going to last (unfortunately for me, considering he's pretty much the only reason I watch the show!), I lovelovelove what Ryan Murphy's done with his storyline over the last few weeks.
There's one more episode in this block and maybe that will wrap up Kurt's plot? We'll see!
I lovelovelove what Ryan Murphy's done with his storyline over the last few weeks. Astonishing that there are now three very different gay characters on the show - Kurt, Blaine, Kartofsky. That has to be a first for a US show that airs that 8pm!

ABC's Brothers & Sisters also features 3 gay characters, but they're all grown men, which is why I find Glee's gay teens especially refreshing. =) (Deleted comment)
Are you a Finn/Kurt 'shipper? I never would have guessed that! I say, go for it! |
