Michael pics & Clex-spam [Oct. 26th, 2008|05:09 pm]

New Michael pics at rosenbaummedia. He's wearing a George Michael t-shirt!

eeyore1017 has kindly posted an excerpt of quotes from the Smallville S7 companion. My favourite is yet another schmoopy quote of Michael talking about Tom!

Michael on Tom: "When I tell a joke, he's the first person who laughs. He's there every day, and it takes a lot. I'll miss moments. We had some great moments where we laughed until we cried, and really enjoyed ourselves. There wasn't a day that went by when we didn't have at least one good laugh. Even with a tough episode, where maybe we didn't like the story or the director, we somehow made light of things and laughed."

Aw, boys! Is it too much to hope we might get a photo of them together this year? Having a little cuddle on the red carpet? PleasePleasePlease!

Every so often, watching SV, I get these moments of deja vu. Wait...let me rephrase that. Watching SV, I constantly get moments of deja vu. That's because this show is Very Big on recycling. So here's a little picspam I like to call...

(I am indebted to acampbell for both 'caps and concept.)

Is there anything more romantic than a rescue between young lovers? In "Accelerate", Clark's rescue of Lana is presented as a Very Big moment, the beginning of a more serious relationship between the two:

And then in "Bizarro", Kara's rescue of a water-logged Lex kicks off Lex's obsession with her:

Lex looks quite fascinated by his beauteous rescuer:

However, a romantic rescue from water had already been done definitively by Clark and Lex in the very first episode.
You want fascinated? Here's fascinated!
He's so beautiful? Is he real? *touches him to find out*

*is equally fascinated*

I strongly approve of Tom's crotch and Michael fondling his own chest.

When one of Clark's red jackets was auctioned at SFX, Michael bid on it, noting that he had worn it "down by the river. I got cold and Clark wrapped me in it." In fact, Michael was wrapped in a fetching red blanket - but it does show that filming the scene has sentimental memories for him!

In S4's "Commencement", Lois and Clark, who have been comically bickering with each other up to this point, have a sweet moment. She helps him tie his tie for graduation:

Very nice! A harbinger of romance to come? It also calls back to S1 and another romantic moment, one of the sweetest in SV history:

It's no accident at all that Clark says "I do" in this scene...

Lex lets his eyes drift a little.

Romantic?

Yes. So very.

In S5's "Tomb", Chloe is committed against her will in Belle Reve, at risk of invasive treatment...

Which can't help but evoke....

(Arguably, "Tomb" shows that Clark has learned to follow his own instincts when it comes to rescuing friends...but I do think "Asylum" is the stronger episode because the ending is so damn heart-wrenching.)

In S8's "Committed", Lois is tied up and threatened with electric shock!

Clark saves her, and says tenderly "Let's get you out of here!"

Hmmm....Where have I heard that exact line of dialogue tenderly delivered to a tied-up-threatened-with-electric-shock person before? Oh, yeah...

Clark's expression here kills me, because he's wanted Lex to know so badly and now Lex knows and is staring up at him with such wonder...

One aspect that strongly differentiates "Tomb" & "Committed" from "Asylum"...in the former eps, nobody shows off a sexy bulge in their pajama bottoms. "Asylum" for the win!

In conclusion: I don't actually mind that the writers raided Clex moments for later moments with the girls. All this does is reinforce that, yes, these were big, romantic moments the first time around. (More romantic, in my opinion! Because Lex....Clark...Clex...GUH!)

Great post! I'm glad someone else besides me remembers all this stuff! because sometimes it seems the writers haven't a clue!

I love the comment: "Even with a tough episode, where maybe we didn't like the story or the director, we somehow made light of things and laughed."

So, they got fed up at times, too!

You've pointed out most of these examples before but "Committed" gave me the urge to do a post as well!

I love the comment: "Even with a tough episode, where maybe we didn't like the story or the director, we somehow made light of things and laughed."

So, they got fed up at times, too!

I love that they worked out their script frustrations with snark and jokes!

See the Clex was THERE from Episode 1. It didn't even need to build up because it was so very there and in your face from the very first encounter Clark and Lex had with each other in the Pilot. And yet it still built from there constantly reaffirming and becoming more and more embedded into the Clark and Lex characters. Clex is like the original Coke - Classic, timeless and imitated by many but never touched for it's longevity and flavour. Great post!

Absolutely! Boy crashes into boy, their eyes meet, their lips touch, and epic love follows!

Yes. This is a perfect metaphor!

I love this post, and I especially adore how it's written with love, and not bitterness. Michael himself, in the S7 Companion, comments on the similarities between the Clark saving Lex in the Pilot and Kara saving him in Bizarro. He calls it symbolic.

As always, you choose both the perfect caps and the perfect words to illustrate your point. And I kind of can't believe you included the dillo shot! LOL! I will forever be chagrined that it was with JTT in the scene with Michael instead of Tom.

Thank you! I'm not bitter - the ending of "Arctic" completely satisfied me, thanks to Michael's script contribution (and possibly Tom's as well.) So I don't begrudge some Clex moments getting reused for the ladies - it just sets Clex where they belong, on a continuum of Smallville romance. (Or IMO, at the pinnacle!)

(Plus, Clex have lots of moments that are exclusively theirs!)

I need to buy this book! I liked the Kara rescue, because it was a homage to the Clex rescue and only deepened Lex's obsession with Clark.

And I kind of can't believe you included the dillo shot!
It's rather hard to resist :)

I will forever be chagrined that it was with JTT in the scene with Michael instead of Tom.
My theory: Tom is standing just out of frame & the 'dillo is acknowledging him!

I'm glad you liked the quote. :-)

I love your picspam! I love the fact that Tom and Michael actually rehearsed the bow-tie scene quite a bit and that it was important to them to "get it right." I forget where I read about this. Probably in the Season 1 Companion Book?

I strongly approve of Tom's crotch and Michael fondling his own chest.
I love your phrasing of this statement! Of course, after reading that line, I couldn't help but let my eyes wander downward...;-)

AM & JG also mention this on the "Truth" commentary. AM: "They're so cute." JG: "Yes."

It's hard to resist, isn't it?

I think it's a relationship that Tom & Michael worked hard to build - with such lovely results!
