Happy (belated) birthday to ayu1126!

Michael is listed to participate in the "Echoes of Hope" Hockey Tournament on January 18th in Park City. He played in this game last year too. However, "Kerosene Cowboys" is scheduled to be filming in Russia in January...so I guess we'll have to wait and see where he ends up!
http://www.echoesofhope.org/CDA5240F87574D8387EBDE8FEC733210/news/news.asp?item=113336

This blogger has a cool way of raising money for the Annual Walk to end breast cancer - she photographs celebs with a teddy bear and then auctions the photos. Michael looks very solemn and cute with his teddy and there's bonus Chris in the background!

One of the things I've always liked about SV is how occasionally an actor with a tiny part can end up totally stealing the show. I'm not talking about top-billed guest stars like the marvelous Christoper Reeve & Blair Brown, or the gloriously over-the-top Christopher Heyerdahl (as Zor-El), I mean the actors who have at most a scene or two, or even just a line or two, and still end up making a great impression.

Joe MacLeod made such an impression as a snarky delivery guy in "Rosetta", he actually got a shout-out from Michael on the DVD commentary, which Joe himself has proudly posted on YouTube!

To steal a scene from Michael or Tom alone is impressive - but to steal focus from both guys, especially in intensive Clex mode, is a rare achievement! Package Guy notes the Clex drama going on...

But does he care? No, he's got his own day to have, and haughtily puts Clark in his place. Awesome!

(Joe has gone on to great success as one of the quick-witted hosts of "Ghost Trackers")

"Rage" is an All About Oliver episode, also know as the "WTF? episode where Lionel gets invited to the Kents' for Thanksgiving". But what interested me far more than Ollie's angst or Lionel's "redemption", was the fate of the doctor who was testing the "Rage" drug. As played by Carrie Genzil, she knows she's done wrong and is in way over her head, but has no idea how to get herself free. Lots of incidental characters meet unhappy ends on SV; I was rooting for the doctor to survive...

The show leaves her fate in doubt: Clark concludes one of her test subjects killed her. On Lex's orders? We never find out.

The designated special guest star for "Quest" was Robert Picardo as Edward Teague. He does just fine, but the actor who runs away with the episode is Donnelly Rhodes as Milash. His scenes with Michael are fantastic, with Lex seeming to really bond with this grandfatherly figure. Did I understand what Milash was talking about? No. But I was happy for him to keep talking!

"Thirst" has sorority girl vampires, Carrie Fisher and a totally incoherent plot. And it also has a brief, perfect performance by Luciana Carro as Chloe's exasperated room-mate, who is thoroughly fed up with Wall of Weird articles all over their dorm room and a gatecrashing Lana!

"Combat" was intended to be a vehicle for wrestlers Ashley and Titan - but it's Michael Eklund as Maddox who steals the episode from everyone, including the main cast! Maddox is a double role, he's both a nebbish...

...And a flamboyant fight promoter, who tells Clark : "I thought with your pretty face you'd never done a round in your life!" He also gives Clark a very enthusiastic up-and-down look, while licking his lips! tariel22 alerted me to Eklund's appearance in a recent "Supernatural" ep, where once again, he totally steals all his scenes!

The "dead, before the credits roll" characters rarely make much of an impact. "Freak" is an exception, because of the charming performance by Anthony Shim as Dan. Dan the Man! How can you not love a meteor freak who uses his powers to help people bowl better? And Shim plays him with such sweet enthusiasm.

Gillian Barber as the teacher in "Truth": She has a mere two scenes to create her character and she's fantastic, her secret unwillingly ripped from her word by word:

Daren A. Herbert has only one line in "Bloodline" but he makes the most of it! "Kent! Miss Mercer wants to see you." It's not so much the line itself as the way his voice conveys that he's totally above delivering messages to Lois, while his eyes take a nice walk all over Clark! ('cap by voldything)

Gina went on to play a bigger role in S7, but she started off as a bit part. Her role was expanded, probably due to enthusiastic fan response to the talented Anna Galvin. It was great to finally see someone be 100% loyal to Lex, and crushing on him as well! In "Bizarro", as Lex mopes about Lana, Gina manages to convey with a tiny eye-roll what the audience has been thinking for years "ENOUGH ALREADY!" It's evident that all Gina cares about is hauling Lex's sexy ass to safety:

Incidentally, there's a scan of Anna's interview with SV magazine on her website: she talks about Gina's love for Lex ("Lex was my fantasy...") and her enjoyment of working with Michael:
http://www.kelesa.net/anna-galvin/ag-articles.htm

And, last but not least, the little bit-part-player that could...RING THAT BELL!

The actor is Jason Poulsen; the character is so far only known as "Daily Planet worker." While "Heroes" twice retracted plans to include a gay character and "Lost" apparently can't be bothered, "Smallville" just went ahead and did it, perfectly. Jimmy's pal is introduced in "Cure"; he reappears worrying about his dogs during the eclipse in "Blue"; he gives Clark an appreciative up-and-down look in "Plastique" and he BETTER NOT HAVE DIED in "Bride." *shakes fist at writers* Please let him return and ring many more bells in the future! ♥

YAYZ! My favorite! I love you nerdy, gay friend of Jimmy! I will always ring your bell if you ask. THERE IT IS.

Wow, I didn't realize that was the same guy! He was great in both roles.

Eeee, teddy bear!! ♥
Lucky teddy, to be snuggled by Michael.

I *love* Ring--and I loved how the boyfriend line was practically a throw away!

And Donnelly Rhodes--*happysigh* Best guest star ever!

The casualness makes it perfect, eh?

Donnelly Rhodes - always wonderful, from Young and the Restless to Soap to The X-Files to especially Davinci's Inquest.
And a great dad on "Danger Bay!"

Michael Edlund also had a recurring part on Blood Ties.
Good to know! What a chameleon he is.

I love the idea of the SV scene stealers, and you picked a great bunch. I think I'm especially fond of the Combat guy, because it was just such a bizarre performance.

He's the bright spot in a pretty terrible episode - Tom seemed to enjoy playing opposite him!

Jimmy's Gay Friend! Craig says that in the scripts, his name is Colin. It's oddly fitting because I sort of always imagined his name would be something like Colin. :D

You keep filling my hiatus with wonderful Smallville goodness! Thank you!!

Your choices are all fabulous! That delivery guy was hilarious. He reminded me a lot of Michael J. Fox.

Talk about a scene stealer! Lex in black coat/white shirt/no tie! *thud*

Donnelly Rhodes was awesome. I was so glad they didn't kill him off. And Chloe's roommate was priceless.

I am going to be devastated if Ring That Bell guy is dead. I actually played that part of Bride over more than once to try and convince myself that someone could survive what I heard. Let's just say I'm worried. :(

BTW, the guy from Combat's last name is Eklund.

Thanks for the correction - fixed! (Is Edlund a SPN writer? Name seems familiar.)

Yes! It's a very MJF like delivery! He's a multi-talented guy: in addition to Ghost Trackers, he's also got a band.

He's all intense and sexy!

I hope the fan-love persuades them to bring him back! He's such a nice addition.

I love how Michael refuses to belittle MacLeod's role and insists on calling him a "guest star," despite argument from the other commentator (whoever it was).

My other favorite scene stealer was the actress who played Dr. Tang.

Great news about the hockey game in Park City! Because that means Michael will be having fun doing what he loves, and we'll get to see a new batch of pics! But I wonder what is going on with Kerosene Cowboys?

I feel bad if that project didn't work out for him; but I'm positive something even better comes along.

Great post!

That was Greg Beeman! And yes, it was cool how Michael gave him his props!

Yes, she was great too. Nice rapport with Michael.

I'm very curious about "KC"...time will tell, I guess.

That person certainly does have a great way to raise money. And that the actors all posed with the bear is just awesome! Though, as much as I dearly love Michael, the two pictures I really want are Marc Singer and John De Lancie! *grins* I've had some very odd crushes in my life. lol

I want there to be a series out there where Lex and Milash go around and investigate aliens together, with Milash grumpusing and Lex telling long sad stories about his childhood. It would be glorious.

Ring that Bell Guy needs to have survived. Poor sweet kid. Following Chloe around in her underwear. Gina should also come back. I don't care if she's a clone of herself, or WHAT.

Yes, I like this idea! Lex would finally have a kind-hearted daddy figure!

They've done far more outrageous retcons - maybe Gina wasn't dead, just unconscious. And we didn't actually see "Ring that Bell!" guy die, though there was a sinister "squosshy" noise when Doomsday hit him...maybe Dooms just stepped in jello or something!

Great idea for a picspam. :-)

Maddox was all kinds of awesome. Totally out there and over the top. His dialogue delivery was just the right blend of surreal and hammy. Loved it. But "ring that bell" dude has to be my favorite. People like him could actually prove to great recurring, third tier characters. Much like certain characters were on BtVS and Ats. Sadly, I just don't see him having survived that attack---but we'll soldier on till we have confirmation.

Yes, I always wished SV had created more third tier characters, especially when the kids were in school. "Ring that bell!" guy seems to have been brought back because he got a good fan response in "Cure"...perhaps they'll heed the fans again and bring him back to life!

*crashes your journal*

I hope you don't mind that I friended you. I seem to keep ending up here looking at pics, etc, and it seemed rude not to say hi.

One of my favourite bit-parters is Lois' nemesis - the nurse at the Smallville Medical Center who actually cares about forms and proper admissions procedures. Lionel's prison pals in a cut scene were potentially interesting too. I'm sure he was a bundle of fun 24/7.

Heh, yes the procedure-minded nurse was great! Of the prison guys, I loved Lionel's quirky cell-mate in "Transference." He and JG played off each other very well.

"Wiggy" describes him perfectly! For me, he's the one bright spot in a dark, drab episode.
