Smallville spoilers [Jul. 22nd, 2009|06:18 pm]

Thanks to everyone who filled out yesterday's poll - there were extremely close results in many of the categories! The one majority consensus is that Tom sleeps in a t-shirt and boxers (and I bet he looks just lovely when he's sleeping - lips parted, hair mussed, cheeks a little flushed. If he snores, they would be cute snores.)

Via tariel22, dawnybee and lisawest99: Michael is scheduled for the charity baseball event this Saturday! Which hopefully means lots of hot photos. Link

.
Regarding the re-introduction of Zod, here's a quote from writer/producer Kelly Souders:

“We’re introducing him as Major Zod—this is before he became General Zod. Over the course of the season, the venomous side of Zod rises because he experiences a few key betrayals with our beloved characters.”

This plot, AGAIN? So Zod starts off as an upstanding fellow who gets his feelings hurt and reluctantly turns evil? Emo-Zod is no fun - he's supposed to start throwing cars around and despoiling earth as soon as he arrives! Michael's Zod wasted too much time with Lana but at least he prioritized mid-air wrestling with Clark and managed some incidental despoiling along the way.

Also: Metallo apparently doesn't know he's Metallo either so that makes for a double-dose of emo-villain. Zor-El better turn up & cut through all the weepiness!

Unimpressed!Lex is unimpressed.

No. No, no, no, no, no, no. No.

No.

I'm fine with the show being an origins piece for alot of the characters in villains to keep in line with Clark's origins and road to his destiny, but not everyon needs that transition shown. And BS with Zod being a relectant villain. He was already evil on Krypton, that's why he and Faora were in the Phantom Zone. Disagreement with the council or not, Zod was not a good guy.

Also: Metallo apparently doesn't know he's Metallo either so that makes for a double-dose of emo-villain.

And why must they change Metallo? John Corben was a crook, why should he be butt hurt over his lot? This is making me tired. Can't anyone on the show just be evil and loving it?

Exactly! There is NO NEED for revisionist Zod. Did Terence Stamp have angst? He did not! He was terrifying. Zod should be hella scary right from the get-go - why is that so hard for these writers to understand?

And he's only one for two episodes - how much time will be wasted on his "emotional journey"?

One thing for sure: Clark will blame himself for both Zod & Metallo and Oliver will probably blame him too!

I'm beyond unimpressed with that Zod spoiler. Sounders & Peterson are getting embarrassingly predictable about the types of stories they thrive on so I'm already certain where season 9 is going (Zod ending up betrayed + some mandatory time-travelling = they'll somehow make Clark responsible for the destruction of Krypton).
Throw some angst with one of the women in there too (Chloe, Lois or Tess falling in love with Zod & pleading for his "good side") and I think you've nailed it!

THEY HAD BETTER NOT MAKE CLARK RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DESTRUCTION OF KRYPTON.

I can only laugh in horror of the concept at this point. Why not make Clark responsible? They only established the fact that it was destroy in civil war, but it's not like they mind completely retconning everything.

Yeah, after the Luthor retcon of last season, I'll put nothing past them.

Season 9 sounds so tired

I think I will remain forever bitter that Sam won't be playing Zod after all, I was really hyped up for that and the emotional resonance it would bring

I was thinking how much better the finale would have been if Clark had managed to separate Davis & Dooms, then bury Dooms deep in the earth. Then everything seems to be cool - but without Clark knowing, Zod swoops in and takes possession...

Urgh for real. Season 8 was bad enough with the crappy music and the lack of location filming/seeing that same street over and over again. Not to mention the awesome lack of budget for Doomsdays costume and fight with Clark. I can't see as season 9 will be any better considering the renegotiated contracts as well :/

And that would have been awesome! I was really unsure after losing Lex and Sam won me over, but right now I just don't have the interest in being won over by yet another new villain, especially one that's treading the exact same woobie paths as Lex and Davis did. You'd think they could come up with something new at this point

This was pretty much my response to their ruination of Zod. Seriously. Zod as is, if he's going to wait to take over the world because he appeared out of nowhere, should be doing the cunning think and be a formidable enemy who doesn't give a flying fritata about emotional betrayals. Those who betray Zod will feel the WRATH OF ZOD. He talks about himself in the third person. He's MFing Zod, people!

While I've written a different take on Zod sometimes, but I never want him emoing all over the place. Especially when I suspect it's going to be one of the new Kryptonian hotties enacting the Lana Loyalty Then Betrayal plot they gave to Tess last season. Why is it that they keep writing this plot over and over again, where there's this okay guy, but girls betray him and he turns evol. They hinted that Lionel had that happen, and the threw Lana in between Clark and Lex, and they just decided the human half of Dooms would turn evol and stabby because the girl he abducted didn't want him (duh, Davis).

The solution to all of this, really, is for all the men to go gay. Then no one would be evol, amirite?

I feel like if Metallo doesn't know he's Metallo, we're going to miss out on a delightfully hedonistic character. You have to love how they keep bringing in fresh toys to play with and just go through the same motions.

Exactly! His only concern with human emotions is how he can manipulate them to serve his interests!

I think the writers naively believe this leads to sexual tension and a more relatable villain. But the SV writers haven't made it work yet & as you say, they;ve tried over & over.

I feel like if Metallo doesn't know he's Metallo, we're going to miss out on a delightfully hedonistic character.
Yeah, can there not be one villain that's completely unrepentant and having a good time with it?

The solution to all of this, really, is for all the men to go gay. Then no one would be evol, amirite?
This solves every SV script dilemma to date!

That is an awesome cap! LOL! What a contemptuous sneer!

I just can't bear to speculate about this stuff, it makes my head hurt. I'm just going to wait and see what we get. Not only do Kelly and Brian constantly say things that make my head want to explode, lots of times there is little resemblance between what they've teased and what we eventually see onscreen. I just have to try to ignore them.

Honestly, I don't really care about Zod. I'm already disappointed that they're messing with the absolutely awesome characterization Michael gave us, and giving the new Zod a season-long arc means he's Zod in name only, as far as I'm concerned. Zod is SCARY. He's all about ruthlessness and destruction and complete disregard for human life. He doesn't hesitate, and he doesn't need to develop into someone evil, he DEFINES evil! What the hell are they thinking? But anyway, isn't this show supposed to be about CLARK?

Gah. See me get all worked up? I just need to focus on the pretty. Tom, Justin, BAG, and Callum Blue! Now that's a happy place. :)

I can't wait to see Michael in action on Saturday! Fingers crossed for pics AND vids!

Clark just asked him for advice about girls. Lex doesn't approve of Clark dating girls.

In these hands, Zod probably won't turn evil until episode 17 and even then he'll still be angsty :(

But anyway, isn't this show supposed to be about CLARK?
Yeah, where are the decent Clark spoilers? He may be wearing an "S" and he's fighting crime in a different way? And??? Apparently S10 is about how Clark hurt Zod's poor little feelings leading to the destruction of Krypton!

I can't wait to see Michael in action on Saturday! Fingers crossed for pics AND vids!
I hope so!!! His baseball pics are so swoon-worthy, as your recent picspam demonstrated!

I don't even get how the "Major" Zod storyline makes sense. We've already had him on the show as General Zod and with Brainiac talking about him as the greatest leader ever, etc... so I don't understand.

Souders & Peterson are not filling me with confidence in their exec producing abilities. Sigh...

I guess he's being plucked from an earlier point in his time-line? I'd still prefer fully-matured, homicidal Zod.

It's a shame the other two left & these two stayed. They lack the comic book grounding.

I love that photo. LOL! God, what an Adina kind of face!
It's a total Adina "bitch, please!" face!

Like DARKSEID, another evil alien lifeform bent on taking over the world. I'd much rather him than the return of a wimpy-ass Zod.
Darkseid would have been a much better choice, provided he wasn't given the emo treatment as well. Anomoly would have been great too.

But, come on -- is this going to be the way the series continues, by rehashing the same stories and plots?
And the love triangles! Gotta have those! *sigh*

If they decide to try a redemption plot with Zod, I will punch a wall! Zod needs no make-overs!

I'm on board with Michael returning for a redemptive Lex arc though.

OMG, again??? SV always used to steal plots from films etc, then it started rehashing old episodes from earlier seasons, and now it's repeating an entire character arc, for the third time? How is this show still being made?

Yay, new Michael-pics soon, hopefully!

With extreme economy and fill in the blank scripts apparently! Cross out "Lana", put in Chloe; Cross out "Davis", fill in "Zod."
